About Deniliquin Council

The Municipality of Deniliquin was constituted on 19th December 1868 and the first Municipal Election was held on 23rd February 1869. The Council was known as the Council of the Municipality of Deniliquin until the enactment of the 1993 Local Government Act when it changed its name to the Deniliquin Council. The Deniliquin Council is responsible for providing appropriate services and facilities to the community and to ensure that those services and facilities are managed efficiently and effectively. The Council gains revenue to provide services to the community by charging rates on properties, Government Grants and charges for services. Council also has the responsibility for managing, developing, protecting, restoring, enhancing and conserving the environment of the area for which it is responsible.
